Q: How Long Does A Hot Water Unit Last?

How long a hot water unit lasts depends on how well it is maintained, the water quality in your area, proper installation and the amount of use. When you are selecting a hot water unit, it’s always good to look at all of the information that comes with it, that way you will know what to expect. If you install your new hot water unit properly and maintain it, you can expect good results. For example, if your less expensive water heater is guaranteed to last for six years, with proper maintenance; it will probably last for eight.

It’s preferred that you buy a better hot water unit. This is because it works twenty-four hours everyday for the whole year! So when you buy a hot water unit that is guaranteed to last for ten years it will probably last for twelve. Considering that the average family has a 135L water tank and uses quite a bit of hot water, it’s worth it to get the better hot water unit and have one of our plumbers professionally install it.

Q: Does It Matter If My Toilet Is Dripping?

This is not only an annoyance but also a waste of water and money. Dripping toilets can cost hundreds of dollars extra per year on your water bills. If the toilet continues to run into the bowl after the toilet is flushed, it indicates that some part of the mechanism is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. Even if the toilet is only dripping slightly, this will still cause war to the outlet mechanism requiring more work than would be initially necessary.

Q: How Can I Prevent Burst Pipes & Leaks?

Regularly take the time to inspect your pipes. If rust or lime is depositing on them, this may indicate that the pipe is on track to form a leak or even burst. If this is happening, contact AJR to address the problem. By performing an occasional inspection you could stop a small problem before it turns into a large one. Leaking pipes can damage floors and possessions and become much more costly than if the problem was detected early.

Q: Why Does My Tap Drip?

Usually when a tap is dripping the problem is that the internal mechanisms need to be rebuilt or replaced. Often people turn off their taps with more force than is required and this will cause the washer to get worn out much faster than usual. If a tap has been left to drip or run slightly for too long of a period then this can cause wear to the sealing face of the tap set which would require grinding back to a sound surface. It is best to get onto drips as soon as possible so the problem doesn’t get much worse.

Q: How Do My Drains Get Blocked Up?

Usually drains get blocked up because people are not careful of what they allow them to go down them, especially in the kitchen. Kitchen drains slowly accumulate all the fats and oils that get washed down from the food, eventually this closes the pipe up so much that it become ineffective. Other drains, like in the bathroom, get clogged because of the oil residue from soaps, shampoos and hair. You should be very conscious of what you put down your drains and you should generally never have a problem.

Q: How Do I Extend The Life Of My Plumbing Fixtures

The best way to extend the life of your plumbing fixtures and extend the life of your hot water unit is to install a water softener or water conditioner in your home. These are designed to prevent scale build-up, protect pipes and fixtures and make all appliances that use water more efficient.

Client Testimonials

Belinda Glasson
I have never met a better tradie. We had our entire kitchen and both bathrooms ripped out and replaced. He was punctual, polite, professional and did a brilliant job. He sent text messages with confirmation times, before and after photos and cleaned up after the job was completed. We were blown away and very happy. Thanks.
